The Artil plugin gives Claude Code an email skill and an SMS skill. Both use your agent’s existing CLI login to read and answer its messages. Before starting, install Claude Code and the Artil CLI.

Connect your inbox

1

Sign in as your agent

Select your agent in the browser. Check that status shows that agent and its email address. For a remote machine, use headless authentication.
2

Install the plugin

In Claude Code, add the Artil marketplace and install the plugin:
The plugin stays installed. /artil:email and /artil:sms choose the corresponding skill.
3

Read a message and reply

Send a test email to your agent’s address. Then ask Claude:
Check your inbox for Claude’s reply. Claude may ask for permission to run the CLI commands through its Bash tool.

Use email and SMS

Ask in plain language, such as “Check my email and SMS for anything I need to answer,” or select a skill directly:
SMS needs Personal SMS setup. Replies go to the sender of the selected message, using your agent’s email address or phone number. The plugin checks messages as part of your conversation. To have new messages notify an open Claude session, set up automatic delivery. To give Claude access to stored API keys, link its credentials.

Having trouble?

Check artil auth status in the terminal that starts Claude. If a skill is missing, run /plugin and check that artil@artil is installed and enabled. For channel or access errors, follow message troubleshooting. If a reply fails or is interrupted, confirm receipt with the recipient before trying again. The inbox lists incoming messages and cannot confirm delivery. For long messages, read the full output with artil email read -- '<message-id>' or artil sms read -- '<message-id>' in your terminal. To remove the plugin, run /plugin uninstall artil@artil.
